What is MetCon?

What is Metabolic conditioning?

MetCon (Metabolic conditioning) is performing fast paced, high intensity workouts in sets and circuits, in a shorter space of time than a standard workout. Keeping the heart rate up pushes your cardio limits and puts your metabolism into overdrive making you burn fat, rapidly. You will burn more calories in comparison to a generic cardio or strength based workout (500 calories in 30 mins!). MetCon also maximises the calories burned after your workout and can increase metabolic rate by 10-25% for up to 48 hours!

The benefits of a MetCon workout?

MetCon requires maximum energy. You will sweat, really sweat, lose your breath and want to quit.. but when that sense of satisfaction hits afterwards, you will want to do it all again!

Metcon is without doubt challenging, but also fun and rewarding. It delivers a real sense of personal achievement, building self confidence and personal pride. Suitable for all ages and fitness levels, you can work at your own pace and level and push your individual limits.

Kaizen Centre Birmingham – MetCon Fitness.

At the Kaizen Centre Birmingham, every MetCon session is adapted to an individuals own abilities and thresholds, so multiple levels of ability and fitness can all work together in the same class.

Give it 100% effort and you will see a clear improvement as you push through subsequent sessions with greater capability. The buzz of seeing yourself getting fitter in real time will keep you coming back. And the only person you are really competing with is yourself. It’s addictive!

Improved fitness and weight loss.

These are the two biggest benefits of MetCon and there is science stuff to back it up. MetCon exercises are performed in short bursts with little break between exercises until the circuit is completed. Metcon hits all the muscle groups, driving your body close to fatigue and pushing your metabolism to higher limits.

Results are often visible more quickly than you would see from only gym based weight. This is because MetCon places demands on more of the body’s systems. Workouts can be tailored to specific body areas, but more often than not, they aim to provide all over body conditioning.

The Kaizen Centre in the heart of Birmingham’s famous Jewellery Quarter Birmingham runs a popular MetCon class on Mondays and Tuesdays at 6pm. Session content varies but involves individual challenges alongside team exercises, keeping things fresh and encouraging camaraderie and team work.

Alternatively, there is a HIIT class on Fridays at 12.30pm, very similar to MetCon, the Friday lunchtime session means you can leave work on time and start your weekend early as you’ve done enough of a workout to enjoy a couple of days off!
